Autum Update

by Paul on Nov.03, 2009, under Commercial, Holidays, Macro, Nightlife Photography, Outdoor Photography

Well, the year is almost over! What’s that all about! I swear it was Xmas a few weeks ago?!

I’ve started work on this years book. Like last year it will focus on my favourite photos that I’ve taken from November in the previous year through to October this year. So that’ll mean the earliest photos that’ll be in it will be from the trip to NYC for thanks giving and the latest will be the ones in this Blog post. I can’t believe I’ve not made it to NYC this year :(

As ever, this blog is automatically posted all over the place, such as Facebook. Chances are you’re not reading the actual blog, so head over to here: http://www.paul-gardner.com/blog to see it how it was meant to be seen.

Just a few other bits of promotion as usual:

Right… so on with some things that I’ve been up to:

My departure from Storm Nightclub

After approximately 10 months of working at Storm Nightclub nearly every Saturday night, I decided to call it a day and throw in the towel at the start of this month. There’s various different reasons why I’ve left, and there’s been some fantastic rumours why too, but trust me, there’s nothing sinister about it, it was just the right time to free up my Saturday nights to do something else. You also have to remember that it frees up some time on a Sunday too, as I would lose a couple of hours every Sunday editing Saturday night’s photos, adding logos, and uploading them to the various locations, etc.

A lovely young lady named Ashely Kingsbury has taken over from me at Storm now. You can find her on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/ashleykingsburyTPAK. Her and her fella Tom make up TPAK Productions, a great events Video and Photography duo. http://www.facebook.com/tpak.productions

To mark the end of my stint at Storm, I chose the best photos from the whole 10 months and put them into 2 Facebook albums which you can find here:

Spot Around The City

We had another DSI Spot around the City (SATC) a while back. I didn’t take many photos on the digital camera, the aim was to use Kodachrome film instead to to mark the decommissioning of Kodachrome by Kodak. Well I still haven’t managed to get my film processes, I guess I should do that soon, but here’s a few of the photos I took on the old digi cam instead:

Some More Pictures for Soya

I headed back to Soya to take some photos of their dishes for promotional materials. Some of you may remember that Soya is the restaurant that I took photos for they had blown up onto massive canvases.

Anyway, the photos are a bit uninteresting unless you’re into food I suppose, but here’s a few cool ones from the set:

Wat Tyler Country Park

Louise and I decided to take a nice trip out for a walk and a picnic a while back. While we had lovely weather for it, I’d totally forgotten about the landfill site next door. It was hard to enjoy ourselves with that stench of dead things and (excuse my language) sh*t. Visiting the park was somewhat of an anticlimax for me too, it really didn’t live up to my childhood memories of the place. Everything was run down, the craft shops were all closed or shut down, and worst of all, the remote controlled boats in the boat museum were turned off :(

Anyway, I really enjoyed Louise’s company despite everything else, and I managed to take a few snaps too… here’s the best of the bunch:

Madeira

Louise and I took a week out over in sunny Madeira! It was a well earned rest for me, and I lapped up the peace and quiet.  We spent most of the time doing nothing. I only took the camera out with us twice. Here’s my favourites from the very limited amount of photos that I took… (you might notice some reflections on some photos as they were taken from inside a cable car).

Bar 29

As a lot of you probably know by now, I’ve been getting involved with Bar 29 in Southend. I’m helping out on the promotions side. Part of this has been to take some cool photos to use with promotional materials, etc. The other weekend we took a few cool photos, including some using fire! Here’s a few of the best ones:

That’s all folks. See you on the next update!

DJs, Dogs, a Class Full of Girls, a Zoo, Laura and Shooting London

by Paul on May.21, 2009, under Commercial, DJ, Outdoor Photography, Photoshoots

Ooops, It’s been ages since I did a blog update! I’ve been so busy but now, just before I head off to Newquay for the Run To The Sun festival, I’ve finally found a spare 10 minutes to write an update!

So, what have I been up to? Apart from working hard, and playing hard (the usual then), I’ve been taking lots of photos:

Colchester Zoo

Some of us had a little reunion at Colchester Zoo at the end of last month, I took some lovely photos, but here are my favourites:

Dogs

Louise and I took the dogs out for a run along the River Crouch. They got quite messy, but really enjoyed themselves, here’s a couple of cool photos I snapped while we were out:

A Class Full of Girls

My good friend Annabel needed some photos taken of her and her classmates at university to go with their artwork, including in some sort of catalogue. So I lugged some lighting gear all the way up about 7 or 8 flights of stairs at her university and took some lovely black and white head shots of them all. Each girl had 3 taken; a serious one, a smiling one, and a silly one. Here’s my favourites:

Some of you might spot the member of the girl group Honeyz in one of those photos (I didn’t recognise her though… oops!)

Laura Needham

Laura popped into the studio for a few hours a few weeks ago, and we took some great photos, here’s my favourites:

Shoot London

Wo0 (A photographer and a Mother), Marc De Groot (A weirdo who used to have an afro but now has a mulletasaurus), John Brophy (works for mixmag and founded dontstayin or something), and myself all had a day out participating in a competition at the Tate Modern. We didn’t win, but I did get this cracking shot:

Bernie T and Damo Shoot

A couple of DJ friends of mine booked me for a shoot… Bernie had access to an old Vulcan Bomber so naturally we used it as the backdrop for some of the shots… here’s my favourites from the whole shoot:

Well, that’s just about it for now… I’ll be back next week with some snaps of Newquay I’m sure.

Soya, and some more London night shots.

by Paul on Mar.13, 2009, under Commercial, Macro, Outdoor Photography, Prints

I’ve been very busy with work lately, but while I’m sitting here in Dusseldorf International Airport (Germany), I’ll do a quick update!

First up, after the success of my night shots in London, I decided to go out for a bit of a longer walk and get some more! Here’s a selection from the walk:

You can see the full set over at Flickr.

Some interesting work that I’ve had to do this month was for a Restaurant called Soya, opening in Leigh-on-sea in Essex this weekend. I got a call asking if I could produce 3 photos, on large canvas prints. One of a Soya Bean, one of some Soya Sauce, and one of some Tofu. Oh, and they had to be ready in 9 days!

Well, needless to say, I got the job done, and I’m really pleased with the results. The prints were blown up quite big, the biggest measuring 120cm x 80cm!

Here’s the 3 shots. The Soya Bean one is really small because Soya have paid of exclusive print rights to ensure it doesn’t show up in anyone else’s Restaurant, etc:

That’s all for now.
